Click here to view tour map This is a more active tour itinerary for Bangkok and Southern Thailand. We spend the first few days in Bangkok, visiting the Grand Palace, and doing a boat trip and Cycling tour.
An overnight sleeper train journey takes us south to Khao Sok National Park, where we spend an adventurous night staying in unique Tree-houses in the forest canopy. We enjoy several walks with a naturalist into the park, and spend two nights staying in simple raft-houses on the Raja Phraba lake. From the lake we have more walks into the park, as well as a canoe trip on the lake with time to relax and enjoy swimming and tubing.
Next we head to the beach at Krabi where you can stay in a luxury beach resort, for some added comfort, after our previous more basic accommodation in the park. We include a ‘Four island day trip’ to some of the most beautiful beaches, islands and coral reefs in the area as well as Mangrove kayaking.
This tour can run immediately after our Classic Thailand tour itinerary to make a longer holiday covering both northern and southern Thailand. We also offer extensions to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam after you return to Bangkok.

View websiteDiscover Bangkok’s surprisingly rural areas, then by bicycle is the best way to do it. A bike ride to explore the back alleyways of Chinatown and experience the unique “street life” and its lively market of this colourful neighbourhood. Afterwards take a ferry across the river and discover traditional communities with their varied ways of life, temples, mosque, church and the King Mother’s Memorial Park. Then take a long-tail boat trip along the canals before continuing by bicycle through this very rural landscape to see fruit and herb plantations then stop for a local style snacks and drinks. Return by long-tail boat and ferry back to the heart of Bangkok. Transfer to train station for overnight train to Surat Thani (1st class air-con).
Arrive Surat Thani in the morning, transfer by a private pick-up truck (songthaew). Check in and after some refreshments it’s up to your tree house. After lunch go tubing down the Klong Sok in inner-tubes (depending on the season), passing dramatic mountain cliffs, with the possibility of observing the wildlife along the way and visiting a viewpoint and small waterfall. Dinner and then overnight in your tree house.
Transfer to Raja Phraba Lake and the raft houses. After lunch, enjoy a short boat excursion to a local fishing village and bat cave to enjoy swimming. Enjoy an evening walk to observe the natural nightlife of the rainforest.
Very early morning canoe trip to search for local wildlife. Back to the rafts for breakfast followed by a late-morning boat trip and then a three-hour hike to a dramatic and panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding limestone mountains. Return to the rafts for late lunch and an afternoon to relax.
After breakfast we get ready for departure to mainland before continuing to Krabi.
We depart from the hotel at approximately 9.00am. Firstly, we enjoy some snorkeling at Koh Dam Kwan (Chicken Island) or Koh Si before swimming and sunbathing at the sand bridge between Koh Taab and Koh Dam Kwan. Picnic lunch on Poda Island Boat trip as we travel on the beautiful of Phra Nang Bay (mountain climbing, lagoon and view point) and make a visit to Phra Nang Cave. Return to hotel at approx 4.00pm.
Paddle along the majestic limestone cliffs and through the mangrove forests. Experience the mangrove ecology along with wild animal sightings.
Aothalane is a bay of mangroves that may be the most beautiful in all of Thailand. Here, bays and canyons are like Passageways. In addition, there are very rich faunas. The region contains good examples of traditional villages. Certainly a highlight of this setting is are the narrow channels cut through two towering karsts complexes, which are passable during all but extreme low tide periods. Several species of Kingfishers, Little Herons and Crab-Eating Macaques sightings are almost guaranteed.
At leisure until transfer to Krabi airport for flight to Bangkok. Upon arrival transfer to hotel

View websiteThe severe flooding in Thailand continues to cause problems for much of the north of the country, and is now impacting on Bangkok as well. We are therefore not taking any new bookings for travel to Bangkok in the immediate future, and are adjusting some of our itineraries in the north as well (for example using flight or coach transport to reach Chiang Mai as the train from Bangkok/Ayutthaya is not running due to the high water levels).
