Click here to view country map New Zealand is considered as the last major habitable landmass to be colonised by mankind, and has since become renowned for being one of the best activity based holiday destinations in the world. Equal in size to the UK or Japan, New Zealand is packed with natural ‘taonga’ (treasures). Fourteen National Parks and three World Heritage Areas coupled with spectacularly diverse landscapes are home to an unparalleled diversity of ancient plant and bird life, all of which has evolved without competition from mammals.
New Zealand is made up of a North and South Island, which are very different in climate, geography and culture. In the north part of the North Island you can find some of the best beaches in New Zealand, and in particular the Bay of Islands has become one of the county’s top attractions. The east coast and The Bay of Plenty are much less visited when compared with the rest of the country, and provide a perfect insight into a culture completely unspoilt by tourism. The central regions of Taupo and Rotorua are best known for their Maori Culture, volcanic scenery, beautiful lakes and geothermal activity. The scenery, the weather, the people and just the pace of life is very different on the South Island. With a much more mountainous and dramatic landscape it is an ideal destination for activity based adventures. The flat, green, leafy city of Christchurch is the South Islands major city if a perfect base from which to explore. In the Northwest, Nelson and Marlborough regions are well known for their challenging hiking, varied wildlife opportunities and world class vineyards. The rugged and sparsely inhabited west coast is home to many geographical wonders, including the mighty glaciers and Paparoa National Park. In the southwest Fiordland, the craggy cliffs and spectacular waterfalls around Milford and Doubtful Sounds showcase the stunning natural beauty of New Zealand.
Our suggested holiday itineraries cover both the North and South Islands and can usually be easily joined together to make lager, more comprehensive itineraries.
