Tailor-made holidays in India

Indian holidays were recently voted as one that most people in the world would like to visit above any other, and the country draws people in with its heady mix of chaotic culture and modern progress, historic monuments, fascinating religious sites, alluring old spice routes, beautiful mountains, sunny beaches, deserts and world famous monuments.

India is a massive country and as such there are numerous travel options for the prospective visitor. Most tours to the north of India start in Delhi, the countries capital city, with popular sights such as the Red Fort, India Gate and the Jami Masjid, not to mention a stroll through the bustling Chandni Chowk. Suggested itineraries include the Golden Triangle, which visits Jaipur and Agra, home of the world famous Taj Mahal, or a longer trip down to Udaipur, with its beautiful lake palaces, and the holy town of Pushkar, famous for its annual camel fair. The mountains of the north are also popular and here you can visit the old colonial hill stations of Shimla and Manli, and enjoy excellent trekking and wildlife tours. A short flight or longer train journey east will take you to the holy city of Varanasi famous for is burning ghats. There are also numerous National Parks to visit like Ranthambore, Corbett, Sariska and Keoladeo Ghana, where it’s possible to see tigers, sloth bears, one horned rhino and a wealth of birdlife.

To the south of India tours usually start in Bombay, the cosmopolitan capital of the south. There is plenty to see and do in and around Bombay, whose famous sights include the imposing Gateway to India, Haji Ali mosque, colourful Bollywood and numerous markets and bazaars. Suggested itineraries include visiting the beautiful sandy beaches of Goa stopping en route in Pune, site of the famous Osho Ashram. For those with more time great option is to head further south to Kerela and take a cruise around the tranquil backwaters on board a traditional house boat. There is also the option to take a flight east to Tamil Nadu state famous for its many intricate carved temples and glorious beaches.
