Click here to view country map The mountain kingdom of Bhutan, 'The Land of the Thunder Dragon', is quite unique in that it has managed to retain its ancient traditions and culture in the face of a growing tourist industry. Seemingly untouched by the outside world, its beautiful mountain scenery and traditional architecture, combined with a truly warm and welcoming people make it the perfect holiday destination for anyone looking for a genuine cultural experience.
Tourism in Bhutan is a quiet a new phenomenon. Its borders only opened up for the first time in 1974 as part of a radical and long term modernisation program, which is still in motion today. The country has a unique 'high value, low volume' approach to tourism, with a minimum nightly cost that makes travel here far more expensive than in neighbouring countries. Most holiday itineraries start in Paro, site of the international airport, and this small attractive town offers a great taste of what Bhutan has to offer. The nearby stunning Taktsang monastery, which perches high on a cliff face, and Paro & Drugyal Dzongs are popular excursions. The capital city Thimpu, is just a couple of hours drive away, and has many interesting things to see and do, including cultural shows, museums, markets and monasteries. The Punakha Valley lies further east and its beautiful landscape affords wonderful scenic views and a visit to the spectacular Punakha Dzong is a highlight of any holiday to Bhutan.
Those interested in nature and wildlife should consider travelling further east as, although tourist amenities are more limited, it is a beautiful region to visit, with some of the richest and most ecologically diverse forests, and fantastic bird watching opportunities.
We offer a comprehensive range of private and tailor-made holidays throughout Bhutan. They range from a short 4-day cultural sightseeing break, to a 2-3 week trek or bird watching tour, or any combination in between. To fit in with the Druk Air flights, we combine all our tours to Bhutan with at least one night either side in India, Nepal or Thailand.

Throughout the whole stages of our trip to Bhutan and Nepal I found Ralph and the team from Uncover the World, absolutely first class. Not only did they provide on-going answers to my barrage of questions, they also tailored our trip four or five times to ensure it was suited perfectly to our needs. The on-going information (around visas, hotels, travel arrangement, weather, what to bring....), was clear, precise and covered every question that we had. Once we booked our trip, unlike many other companies, Uncovered the World continued their care and communication with us, ensuring that everything to the most finest of detail was planned and ready. Everything in their control, ran as planned and even when a strike occurred in Nepal, Ralph called us at our Hotel and offered us a number of options as to maximise our trip as fully as possible. On returning back to the HK, we both agreed that Bhutan was a once in a lifetime destination and we had just experienced an unrivalled holiday. I wish to thank Ralph and his team for making this possible and for the excellent service they offered - it is rare that I write a recommendation, but on this occasion it is absolutely deserved

I would like to thank you for arranging such an incredible adventure for Ann and myself. We were both very impressed with the organisation of the whole trip and to date we think it is our best holiday ever. The hotels, travelling arrangements etc., were all excellent and everything went like clockwork. Ram in Nepal was an excellent guide as was Braccus (our guide in Kathmandu itself). Ramesh Maharjan our driver throughout Nepal was excellent and we both felt he was an incredible driver with all that traffic! We were so pleased to have him as our driver throughout our time in Nepal feeling totally safe with him at all times and would not hesitate to recommend him and Ram as a driver and guide. Both Ann and myself feel we have made new friends in Ramesh and Ram. They gave so much to our trip above and beyond the call of duty. Our trip to Tibet was equally excellent and our guide there by the name of Druja Kar again gave us so much above and beyond the call of duty. He educated us into the customs of Tibetans and was courteous and considerate at all times. Even when it was supposed to be free time he looked after us and took us to real Tibetan restaurants where the food was superb (no upset stomachs throughout the whole trip!). Again we would like to recommend him as a guide to any of your clients whether sightseeing or trekking. He is a wonderful character and his English is perfect along with being a kind and thoughtful person. Again we feel we have made a new friend in Druja. We would not hesitate to recommend your Company to any of our friends and would like to know if you cover Kerala and surrounding areas in India?
