Deep sea fishing in KenyaKenya's Indian Ocean coast is a perfect destination for deep sea fishing. Its warm waters are rich with fish and a sports fisherman's dream. There are plenty of fish to catch, including Blue, Black & Striped Marlin; Dorado; Sailfish; and Tuna and during the peak season the fishing is awesome. Kenya is an ideal place to combine a beach holiday or wildlife safari with big game fishing and also a perfect destination to bring the whole family.
This holiday is based at Hemingways, one of the best known and experienced deep sea fishing operators in Kenya. Their 4-star resort is situated on the beautiful sandy beaches of Turtle Bay, Watamu, just north of Mombasa. This luxurious retreat includes an outdoor heated swimming pool, fully equiped spa offering a full range of massage treatments, internet access, games room, gym, restaurant, bar and gift shop. There is a range of rooms from superior to suites and all include air conditioning, fridges, safes and mosquito nets, and offer beautiful ocean views, just yards away from the beach.
Hemingways is the perfect destination for your first big-game fishing trip, as there is such a diverse range of fish species available. The Watamu area offers a large number of fishing grounds of widely differing nature, all within an hour of the hotel. These include oceanic tidal rips, shallow bands, and undersea mountains. This diversity makes it possible to fish a number of different fishing grounds in one day's fishing, helping to maximise the chances of success. The abundance and variety of fishing off Watamu is especially important for the first-time big-game fisherman, as on your first few trips, it’s important to catch plenty of fish, and not have perhaps just several large specimens to show for a whole weeks fishing.
Fishing is from July to mid April. The southeast wind (Kusi) blows from mid March to sometime in November and is cooler than the northeast breeze (Kaskazi) which blows the rest of the time. The seas are warmer and calmer during the Kaskazi months. Most fish are passing through and not resident in the area and although we have a good idea of when and what fish will be around, they don't read the record charts and pop up at times of the year that they should not be here and vice versa.The main Billfish (Sailfish and Marlin) season runs from November to mid/late March but Sailfish and Black Marlin often come inshore in numbers in August (and this month has been fantastic for Black Marlin these last few years).

We meet and greet you at the airport then transfer you by road to Hemingways Resort, which is about an hour and a half from the airport. The rest of the day is free for you to relax at this beautiful luxury resort and recover from your flight.

Today is a free day for you to relax and enjoy some of the many activities on offer at the Hemingways resort, which include various watersports, excursions and relaxing spa therapies. There is also the option to add in an extra days fishing for those the more keen fisherman. Alternatively you could just relax and enjoy a little sunbathing on the sandy beaches and swimming in warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
